In the 70’s athletics at San Fernando High in Pacoima were phenomenal. Although the school had seen previous success during the 60’s, the arrivals of Manfred Moore and Anthony Davis put the Tigers on the map.
These two Pacoima athletes dominated at the high school level, winning a city championship and moving on to play for the USC Trojans. Moore had a 5 year career in the NFL and saw Super Bowl success. Davis became a USC legend and All American player. He played for the NFL, Canadian League, World Football League and USFL.
“The momentum from these two legends led to a magical era for the Tigers,” stated Lance Grandison, one of the producers of the new documentary, PacoimaStories - Land of Dreams. “Our film relives the memories of those special times and the legacy of the mighty San Fernando Tigers.”
During the mid-70’s, the school produced Heisman Trophy winner Charles White, who dazzled the nation with his amazing speed and power. It saw highly recruited tailback Kevin Williams shatter the national high school record in the 100 yard dash and the Tigers win back to back city championships in 75 and 76.
The documentary features an exclusive interview with Anthony Davis, who reveals the inside story of leading the team in his sophomore year and how it all began. It also features school alumni from that era discussing the excitement brought to the entire town of Pacoima by the Tigers.
The world premiere screening of PacoimaStories is set for Saturday Feb 27, 2016 at Vaughn Performing Arts Theater. |
