Ever since Europeans invaded this land, Native American’s have faced untold challenges. They were enslaved at the San Fernando Mission after occupying the land they called “Pacoinga Village” for nearly 1500 years.
On June 23, 2016 come experience their story at the “San Fernando Ancient, Historic and Present” event at the Andres Pico Adobe in Mission Hills. See Tribal Captain Rudy Ortega Jr, who is featured in the epic documentary "PacoimaStories: Land of Dreams”, as he speaks on the lifeways of the indigenous peoples.
This presentation provides an overview of the three lineages that makeup the current body of the Fernandeño Tataviam tribe. It will walk you through the ancient traditions and peoples of present-day northern Los Angeles County, provide background on the San Fernando Mission period and the historic land grants held by ancestors of the tribe, and end with the current tribal government and affairs.
The program is free and open to the public (although donations are gratefully accepted). There will also be free refreshments and a free door prize drawing.
